Splitting a reservation to allow a room change should NOT create a new reservation. It is not operationally efficient and makes no logical sense. Creating a new reservation leads to several issues:
1. If the invoice is already closed, it generates a credit note.
2. If the invoice is still open, it splits it into two invoices.
3. When analyzing data for important decision-making, it distorts the results because you end up with a new reservation that is not real. It alters metrics such as booking lead time, pickup, and more.
I strongly believe this is an issue that MEWS should address
