Problem
A guest can currently confirm an Optional or Inquired reservation in one click, from the Guest Portal or the confirmation email, without entering any payment method. The reservation flips to Confirmed with no card attached, and there is no easy way to spot which confirmed reservations are missing card details. This leaves properties exposed: the guest can cancel last minute or no-show with nothing to charge, and staff have to manually check every reservation and chase the ones without a card. Optional reservations also do not auto-expire, so an unconfirmed, unpaid option sits on the calendar until someone releases it by hand.
Proposed solution
Add a setting, at rate group or property level, called something like "Require card to confirm reservation." When enabled:
- An Optional or Inquired reservation cannot be confirmed in the Guest Portal until valid card details are entered.
- Card entry is what triggers the confirmation, the same way the Booking Engine and channel manager already work today.
Optionally, tie it to the existing release date so any option still without a card by the deadline is released automatically.
Benefit
- Secures payment up front and removes the manual verification and chasing.
- Cuts no-shows and last minute cancellations on direct and phone bookings.
- Brings Optional reservations in line with how the Booking Engine already behaves, and matches what several other PMS offer as standard.
